The rules, in four steps.
- Each round you and your opponent secretly choose Rock, Paper, or Scissors.
- Rock beats Scissors, Scissors beats Paper, Paper beats Rock. Same pick is a draw.
- Win rounds to reach the agreed target first and take the match.
- Every match counts toward your Classic RPS rating and rank.
The original duel, against a real person
Classic RPS is rock paper scissors the way it is played across a table: two people, one choice each, revealed at the same moment. On Duelto your opponent is a real player somewhere else, matched to you in seconds.
Against a single throw it is luck. Across a match it is not — people have habits, they repeat winners, they avoid what just lost. Classic RPS is a game of noticing those patterns before your opponent notices yours.
Online matches are first to five round wins and count toward your Classic RPS rating. Against the bot you set your own target and choose how draws are handled.
How to play well
- Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock. The same pick is a draw, and the round is replayed.
- Both players pick at the same time — there is no advantage in waiting, and nothing to read from the other side except their history.
- Many players repeat a pick that just won. If your opponent won with rock, expect rock again, and answer with paper.
- Many players also switch away from a pick that just lost, usually to the one that would have beaten what you played.
- Your own pattern is the one to worry about. If you notice a rhythm in your picks, so can your opponent — break it on purpose.
- A match to five is long enough for tendencies to show. Losing the first two rounds tells you more about your opponent than winning them.
Questions
How long is a match?
Online matches go to five round wins. Draws do not count and are replayed, so a match is usually over in a couple of minutes.
Can I play rock paper scissors against the computer?
Yes. Against the bot you choose the win target yourself, and whether draws are shown or skipped. Bot games do not change your rating.
Can I play with a friend?
Yes. Challenge them by their username, or use quick match to be paired with whoever is in the queue.
Is there a winning strategy?
Against a perfectly random player, no — every pick wins a third of the time. Real players are not random, which is the whole game.
Is it free?
Yes. Every game on Duelto is free to play, with no ads inside the game and nothing to buy.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Duelto runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. A free account, made with an email address, is all you need.
Can children play?
Duelto is open from age 8. Accounts for players under 13 are activated by a parent through the confirmation email, and run with extra restrictions.
